Two years after Guiss Guiss Bou Bess put out their first live release in Dakar, Senegal, the Franco- Senegalese Electro-Sabar group unveils their first EP: HERITAGE under the Parisian record label Helico.

HERITAGE is a tribute to the ancestors and elders, those who transmitted the art of Sabar to the group’s lead vocalist and percussionist, Mara Seck. HERITAGE is also something that Mara Seck has understood since his childhood, being the son of the late Alla Seck, the well-known musician who played alongside Youssou Ndour and created the famous Senegalese “Tassu”. Alla Seck was known for his high-energy performances, similar to being a rapper MC, and for surrounding the audience in the sounds of the orchestras of Mbalax.

HERITAGE is a tribute to all the Anglo-Jamaican electronic music genres that have nourished Bass Music and have largely influenced the beatmaker of the group, Stéphane Costantini. A mix of everything can be found in this EP—1980s Digital Dancehall, UK Garage, Dubstep, Grime, Bass House, all of which have gradually merged into the current “Bass Culture”.
